I had heard a story not to long ago of a Young Student Athlete that played football here in South Florida. I recall, in particular, an event that he and a handful of his teammates had attended during his High School Football career, in the backwoods of North Carolina. It was a sleep away camp designated for High School Student Athletes from across the country that were a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). What started out to be more or less “a waste of time” for the Young Athlete, soon became an event that would impact him and his teammates forever. He can recall the moment the camp had come to an end; the mixed feelings of joy and heartache only someone that has experienced could fathom. While tears rolled down their faces as they departed on the bus winding through the Black Mountains of North Carolina heading back home, the Young Athlete would come to realize, sometime later, the impact of that week and how it would change a lifetime of events to come, for kids just like himself.
44 years later Glenn Stoutt tells the same story, as if it was only yesterday, that he had attended this camp with his fellow teammates. The memory lives on through a Bible (Good News for Modern Man) Glenn had received with a note on the inside page from former Miami Dolphins Player Tim Foley, that sits on the coffee table in his home. The significance of the Bible sitting on that table is a reminder of not only the personal impact that he experienced, but an impact that has helped mold the foundation Glenn helps oversee today.
On March 21st, 2015 the KDA Foundation provided 32 Scholarships to the company STEALTH Rating for their bi-monthly Camps & Combine, called the 2015 STEALTH Camp Series they kicked off in January (http://stealthrating.com/stealth-combines/). 42 more Student Athletes participated in the previous February Camp on Scholarships and more than likely, the Students that received those Scholarships didn’t have any idea where that money had come from either.
Since 2003 the KDA Foundation has produced Educational Camps & Workshops throughout the South Florida Region, predominantly in the Broward and Dade County. Fast forward to 2015, KDA has experienced a rapid evolution that some would call, A “Winning Combination” - Larry Blustein. You can read Larry’s entire article with his observations about the KDA Family of Companies and it’s positive impact on our youth by clicking the link to the article below;
Keeping Dreams Alive Foundation has Winning Combination
With a list of core values, KDA’s vision is;
“to give young people the tools, courage and love they need to make wise choices and master the game of life” and has a mission that relies on “Instilling in our students the skills necessary for character, academic and performance success so they can be college and career ready to thrive in the corporate world, design their own financial future and give back to their communities through service.”
The Foundation’s core strength is derived from only two components, it’s Core Values, and its unique Team. With their team consisting of former Standout College & NFL Athletes and Business Professionals, their most common strength is their experience and wisdom they have from mastering what they call “Playing the Game of Life” see (Who We Are). Each team member brings a unique set of skills to the Foundation along with what we think is the most important component, “Their Story”, to the KDA structure. The entire team is comprised of directors that sit on the board or one of the many businesses that systematically support and partner with the KDA Mission, see (KDA Partners)
SInce 2011, Glenn and his Family have taken on the lead role in providing Scholarships for Student Athletes that cannot afford the services KDA’s supporting businesses provide.
“You won't gain anything until you learn to give it all away” Glenn says. “Matthew 19:21” “There is more to that Bible that sits on that coffee table than you think.”
To this day Glenn doesn't have any idea who scholarshipped him and his teammates that provided him the opportunity to attend that camp in the Black Mountains of North Carolina. But what he does know is that the impact it made on his life was a profound one, a profound one that not only changed his life, but a gift that he will continue to share with those around him. Glenn has dedicated his life's work to returning those opportunities that were once so graciously provided for him.
